To better support you in using the NUS corporate identity system, we have compiled answers to frequently asked questions.

The NUS logo comprises the modernised coat of arms and the NUS namestyle, but the traditional NUS coat of arms consists of only the crest.

Source files for the NUS logo can be downloaded by NUS faculty and staff on the NUS Staff Portal under ‘NUS Corporate Logos’.

For best results, please use Toyochem inks (ink codes provided under 'Corporate Colours'). Pantone and process colour codes indicated serve only as guides. Print supervision at the time of production is highly recommended as different materials affect the turnout of colours. RGB codes for screen have also been provided.

Templates for black-and-white stationery, for example letterhead and facsimile, can be downloaded by NUS faculty and staff on the NUS Staff Portal under ‘NUS Corporate Templates’.

Templates for colour stationery, for example colour letterhead and complimentary slip, are not available for downloading. These can only be obtained through offset printing by NUS-appointed printers. Do refer to the list of appointed printers provided under ‘Print/Stationery/Ordering Details’. Staff should not print these stationery items using printers that have not been appointed by NUS.

The colour tones of office printers cannot match those used by commercial printers. To ensure consistency of the NUS corporate colours, staff should not do in-house printing of the colour letterhead.

For a general 'look and feel' of the corporate format for university forms, please refer to the sample forms provided under ‘Print/Stationery/Forms’. You can customise your forms for your purposes and appoint your own printers to print the forms, if necessary.

It is not necessary to use NUS PowerPoint templates if you do not wish to do so. The templates provide recommended formats that may be used to standardise presentations, especially in situations when there are several NUS staff making presentations at the same event.

The business cards are formatted for three stakeholder groups of the NUS community — faculty, administrative staff and students. If you hold two appointments, each side of your business card may be used to reflect an appointment. For multiple designations (more than two), a listing can be printed on the reverse side of the card. Approved NUS business card templates can be found at ‘Print/Stationery/BusinessCard.

The NUS business card should carry the NUS logo only.

A general guideline is that there should be no encroachment of the co-branded logo within the parameters of the 20% clear space guideline for the NUS logo.

The NUS logo is the main logo when it is applied to materials covering the University as a whole. If the focus is on a specific Faculty/Department/Centre/Institute, the name of the Faculty/Department/Centre/Institute should take centre stage while the NUS logo is applied as an endorsing logo.

Blue and orange are NUS corporate colours and should be shown on the covers of all NUS publications.

Frutiger should be used on all covers displaying the NUS logo. Alternatively, Verdana can also be used.

The Office of University Communications has purchased the Frutiger fonts and disseminated them to selected users in NUS faculties, schools and administrative departments. Please write to the ‘Office of University Communications’ if you need the fonts for your in-house production.

A bar in either one of the primary corporate colours (orange or blue) or neutral colours (black and white) may be used to encapsulate the NUS logo and the university's contact details in order to streamline information.

The following are some common misapplications of the NUS logo:

  • Not observing the clear space guideline: No other logos or text should come within the 20% clear space around the NUS logo.
  • Going below the minimum size: The size of the NUS logo should be at least 20 mm in width (horizontal logo) or 20 mm in height (vertical logo) so that the logo is visible.
  • Breaking up the components of the NUS logo: The NUS logo comprises the modernised coat of arms and the namestyle (made up of "NUS" and "National University of Singapore"). These two components must always appear together and should not be detached from each other.
  • Boxing of the NUS logo: The NUS logo should not be boxed up. Instead a bar extending from one end of the design to the other end should be used to carry it.
  • Wrong scaling of the NUS logo: The NUS logo must be enlarged or reduced proportionally. Do not scale the logo vertically or horizontally.

 

Event collaterals (e.g., invite card, sticker name tag, table place card, visit programme sheet and visitor folder) can be purchased from the NUS Co-op.

The NUS Corporate Logo Policy is available on the NUS Staff Portal under ‘NUS Corporate Logos’. All NUS entities should check whether they are eligible to have a sub-logo before they proceed with the creation of one. Design norms and procedure for approval of a new sub-logo are also available for reference. If in doubt, please consult the ‘Office of University Communications’.
